Electricity is offset by a 30 Module Grid-Tie Photovoltaic Solar System. The panels are top quality, American-made Evergreen 190s, and the inverter is a Fronius 5100 (also top quality from Austria.)

Savings: Financially, this system saves approximately $1,150 a year in electric costs. Environmentally, it also saves 7.9 Tons CO2 per year, or 10.7 Tons Coal per year (which is also equal to planting 661 trees.)

Maintenance Free: The system is maintenance free because there are no moving parts, it is silent, and there are no batteries needed. The panels have a 25-year warranty, the inverter carries a 10-year warranty, and the installer workmanship carries a 10-year warranty.

How does solar work?
Solar energy turns sunlight into electricity. The process begins with solar photo-voltaic (PV) cells made of silicon that capture the sun's rays and convert them into raw electricity called direct current (DC). DC is modified into alternating current (AC) thru an inverter to power your home.

How does Grid-Tie Solar work?
A grid tie (net metering) system works with regular electricity. The collected power spins the meter backwards and the customer is credited for power produced. This power surplus can then be used when the system is not producing optimum power. Why Grid-tie? It is: Silent, no maintenance or moving parts; Reliable & Safe (like regular power); Efficient and Cost-effective; No battery storage or expense; Uninterrupted back up of electricity. (Note: In a power outage, grid-tie systems are required to shut down for safety.)

The pool in this home is heated by 6 Heliodyne Gobi Collectors. Sun heats the glycol (organic heat conductive liquid made from beets) in the panels and the heated glycol is transferred through the system and holding tank to heat the pool. The system can also be diverted to heat domestic hot water and augment in-floor heat, however, the home's boiler is highly efficient, and therefore it is more effective to divert the heat to the pool. In the winter, the pool goes into dormant mode. Solar keeps the temperature to 50-60 degrees without use of the pool boiler. Solar will return pool to 85+ degrees during summer months (or pool can be heated to swimming temperature with boiler any time of year.)

The pool in this home is automatically maintained by an Autopilot Pool Pilot Digital Control System (including salt chlorine generator), which monitors and maintains perfect sanitizer and pH levels. (See health and other benefits below.) The pool also doubles as fire protection - has high-pressure reverse pump and fire hose.

No need to buy, transport or store chlorine; softer, silky feeing water – better on skin and hair; no red eyes or staining of clothing; no chlorine odor; automatically solves most chemistry problems; sanitizes your pool every day – no vacation worries; better water chemistry management – day in day out; no algae growth to stain your surface; super chlorination eliminates need for harsh chemical shocking; produces close to neutral pH to prevent radical shifts in water balance; increase safety for your family; easier pool maintenance; ease of operation – chemical regulation at your fingertips; economical to operate – less  electricity usage than a 200 watt light; stable water balance.
