Pantone released its first color of the year back in 2000. Then, the color was called Cerulean Blue, anointed the color of the Millenium. Fast-forward to today, Pantone has released 21 different colors as their “color of the year.” Each release has had a significant impact on design trends and the fashion industry, with new colors showing up in products all around the world.
Pantone has developed a new color for the first time: Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri, a lovely periwinkle blue with violet undertones as the company’s 2022 color of the year!
According to Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman, Very Peri’s violet hue is especially unusual because while it embodies variations of blue, it’s an unexpectedly lively color. “When you add that red-violet undertone, you’re adding energy to the color, a certain dynamism,” she explains. “When you ask people what temperature blue is, they say cool. But when you add that other element of red-violet, now you’re adding some excitement to the color, you’re energizing it.” Read the full interview with Leatrice Eiseman on the Sotheby’s International Realty Extraordinary Living Blog.
You may be wondering how to blend this vibrant color into your home. At first glance, Pantone’s color Very Peri may be a daunting shade to add to an accent wall or an entire bedroom. However, Eiseman has advice for those who are hesitant. “For anyone who is timid, use it in small touches,” she advises. “Experimenting in small steps and using paint, in particular, is so easy to change out.”
For example, you can use the shade to update or refresh an existing coffee table or desk. Here at Legacy Properties West Sotheby’s International Realty, we believe the color can add a little magic to any space that might feel old or outdated. In addition, we believe this color brings light to 2022 after the last few years of struggle and significant changes. With enough intrigue and optimism to carry us through 2022, Very Peri’s versatility means this hue is likely to feel at home in any house.
